Test Scores, the ACT/SAT conversion

How do colleges look at the ACT? I’ve seen the chart with the conversions before, and I scored a 32 (1420 SAT according to the chart). Then, I hear a lot of people on CC saying that the more accurate thing to do is compare the percentiles, in which case I’d have a higher equivalent SAT (around a 1480).

So how do colleges do it, percentiles or the conversion chart?

It seems to me that comparing percentiles would be more accurate.

The most accurate one would be the 1420 SAT. Conversions based on percentiles is logical, but it just doesn't work that way. If you check out other conversion tables u'd see the same.

Look at the colleges averages for the two tests.

also, the conversion chart IS based on percentiles, the long range percentile conversion... or atleast thats what the conversion table i looked at said. uhm.. yeah it does seem strange, because at a lot of schools i applied to, my ACT is way above the IQR, but the SAT conversion (1470) would be only slightly above average).. im hoping this is a sign that they look at the ACT as a tougher test, and that my good score on it is really great.. who knows

That's what I'm banking on.
