My son will be applying ED to Brown this fall.
His SAT is a 2190: M 800 WR 720 CR 670.
Subject Tests: Math II - 790 and Physics 770.
He also took the ACT with writing.
ACT Composite: 35
Should he submit his SAT I score or just his ACT? Can he submit subject tests without the SAT I?
A retake seems sort of crazy, but a 670 seems low for CR.

Thanks!

A 35 ACT score is better than a 1470, but that 800 math score is impressive and a tough thing to hide from admissions. I wouldn’t retake. Brown says it considers the highest score, and it’s hard to imagine that a 670 CR (given the ACT) would be a reason to deny. My inclination would be to submit all scores – but I’m not an admissions officer so my opinion is just that, my opinion.

He should just submit the ACT. Great job!!

He can send SAT subject tests without SAT I, but they are not required with ACT.

Thank you both. I think that two perfect math scores are worth submitting, and given his STEM leanings should serve him well in the admissions process. We’ll see what the fencing coach thinks.

As the father of a Brown epee fencer, class of 2018 - Good luck. Good team spirit, team captains are great and Atilio seems to really care about the students. Atilio may want him to get the CR above 700 - but your son looks like a strong candidate. He is welcome to speak to my son about why he chose Brown over other schools.

Richard, can you share your Brown recruiting experience? Did your son receive a Likely Letter? My son has visited Brown on multiple occasions, and spent some time with one of the Engineering professors there. It’s first on his list (followed by Caltech).

Yes he received a likely letter soon after he applied ED - coaches want to see real commitment before they use one of their slots.

Richard - Thank you. I’ve sent you a PM
