I was wondering if I was allowed to use a wristwatch with a stopwatch feature. It beeps once each time I start and end the stopwatch, so the only times that the stopwatch will make an audible noise is when the testing of a section begins and ends. Is this permitted?

The rule is that no stopwatch that makes a sound is permitted in the testing room. Some proctors take this rule very seriously so I wouldn’t risk it if I were you because you could get thrown out. I don’t see the need for a watch that beeps because they will tell you when to begin , when you have 5 minutes, and when your time is up. It’s your call though.

To clarify, I didn’t program the watch to beep intentionally. It came like that. I would prefer it to be silent, but it beeps every time I initiate the stopwatch or stop it. To follow up, would a silent watch with a stopwatch be permitted? If it is I’ll try to disable the beeping manually by opening the watch up.

You can have a watch that is silent so I would do what you are planning to do and manually disable the sound. The biggest reason the ACT people dont allow beeping watches is because they are worried the sound will disturb other people.

yea, the watch i have does that too. i brought it in and asked the proctor if i could use it, but she was like we’ll have a clock, so i put it away. if you can get it to be silent, you can probably use it. i remember seeing a part where it says " bring a watch" on the act admission ticket.

Every time you press a button on your watch (in a stopwatch mode - start/stop/reset) - COUGH. Under the desk. I mean your watch should be under the desk when you do that. :D
