Hello! I have been lurking here for a while readying everyone’s advice and opinions. It has been a great source of information and I really appreciate it! Now I have reason to write my first post.
My daughter, high school senior, took the ACT this past Saturday, Oct. 22nd. She has taken it several times before with no problems. She is very good at timing the test in part due to a prep class she took that teaches to time how long you need on each part of each section. Anyway, the proctor told them they would begin the Reading section at 10: 55 am. She looked at her clock and the clock on the wall and it read 10:55 am as he said begin. Awhile into the test she looked up and he had written the start time down as 10:50 am. She became concerned about this but continued and thought maybe he would still end it at 10:30 am as it should be for the 35 minutes Reading section but no he ended it at 10:25 am as though he had started it at 10:50 am. Obviously, this shortened the section by 5 minutes.
Then this happened. She said there has never been a second person in the room but this time there was an assistant who walked around making sure no one was doing anything they shouldn’t. This guy’s phone went off during testing playing country music. A little while later a phone went off ringing/beeping. She couldn’t see if it was his again but she thinks it was because they would’ve taken a student out she believes.
There were a couple of distractions that she thinks are allowed such as the proctor was eating loudly during testing and a student got up and left during testing and at the end of the test the proctor said she had to leave so she could catch a flight.
I have reported this to the ACT and the high school where she took the test. ACT told me that they take these reports very seriously and will investigate. They said I should know something in 3 to 4 weeks and it depends on what they discover that will determine what they will do.
My daughter is at a 31 but was hoping for a 32 before the December 1st application for scholarships cut off for the schools she is applying to. As you can imagine she was very upset and frustrated.
Just wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this and what happened? Thank you so much for reading this long post.
