Testing fatigue

Our S felt he got plenty of review by just having his AP courses so didn’t particularly study for any of his tests. He did fine in the AP exams, SAT, SAT subject tests and ACT and got into the colleges he was interested in.

My child was burned out from all the state testing before college testing began. Thankfully, she did well on the ACT so one and done. And, she will have many AP scores to report. I’ve been watching the subject tests and it seems like fewer schools are requiring them, incl Amherst (although if that was her top choice we’d consider as they are recommended). She spends most Saturday’s doing rewarding activities. At this point, we are leaning against doing them, unless her list changes.

@Counselmom Amherst will take the ACT with writing in lieu of the SAT and Subject tests. They aren’t recommended if ACTs are submitted.

Edit - I see they aren’t recommended at all, even with SAT now.

I think it’s much much easier to take SAT subject tests in the spring when the material is fresh. Neither of my kids did much more than take a practice test from the official book and some spot studying if they found some holes. For Biology and US History if you are taking the AP you are unlikely to need much studying at all.
