Testing out of calc bad idea?

I'm going to be a freshman at Notre Dame. I got a 5 on AP Calc BC, so I opted to take the 8 credits ND offers instead of retaking the course so I could fit more in my schedule. My current schedule is 18 credits: gen chem, gen bio, French, theology, a lit course, and PE. I fully intend on going to medical school. Was testing out of calc a bad idea? Do medical schools need to see a grade for calc? I was planning on never taking a math again after I got a 5 on BC, and the med school prerequisite only requires one year of calc.

I still have time to change my schedule. Was it a bad plan not to take calc, and if so, should I switch into calc? Do medical schools need to see it?

Thanks!

I think most med schools REQUIRE AT LEAST 1 semester of math IN college, some of the CA Med School even require 1 full year of math IN college. So it might be a god idea to take a full year of math while you’re at Notre Dame.

Why not consider courses like Calculus III or Differential Equations [I’m assuming that you’re pretty decent at math as noted by your AP Score]. Some of my friends with 5’s on AP BC re-took Calc II and then took Differential Equations. Perhaps Number Theory if you like pure math? I feel all those courses I have listed are very simple.

Take my advise with a grain of salt: I’m a BME at Hopkins and a Math Minor ;)

I think some, if not most, med schools accept AP credit for math only, but I’m not entirely sure? Does anyone know the rule on this?

I saw a spreadsheet on NYU’s premed website with a list of schools that had math as a prerequisite (it was a total of about 40 or 50 schools, so about a third of all med schools); most of them accepted AP credit for the math requirement.

Many many schools want to see a year of math for a grade, can you take a semester of stats and a semester of some other advanced calc and still get an A

All three of the schools that require a year of calc accept AP, however I do not know if non-calc or half year calc requirements are always filled by AP credit.

This website claims to be a complete list
