ok, so i just found out my AP scores, and it turns out that i got 3s on the calc BC test and on the AB subscore. i really think i can do better and pass out of the class since i don't want to take the whole year over again (ill be bored out of my mind).

i was wondering if you know if there's any way there's some sort of departmental test i can take to place out of the class(es)?

How'd you find out your score early? I thought they weren't available by phone until July 1st.

Anyway, I don't think you can test out of it...but I'm not really sure (oh well, at least my half-assed post keeps your question at the top :p).

You guys can save yourself $8 by going onto Testudo and checking out your unofficial transcript. Your AP scores have already been sent to and posted up by CP (if you marked on your AP exams to send it to CP that is).

Did you do well on your Calc AB exam? A 4 or above will test you out of first semester calc.

I know a lot of people going into UMCP who got 5s on the Calc BC exam and are choosing to retake it. Second semester college calculus can be really tough. At the very least, it might just be an easy A for you! I would relax about it.

i mean i wouldn't really care except that im an engineering major, and i needed those classes to be able to take the engineering classes. that and i could have taken AB this year or a non-AP calc class and gotten a much higher grade. o well... such is life. im sure ill be fine.

im an EE major and i got out of calc1 and 2. i took differential equations and calc3 my freshman year, both honors versions. they were the worse classes for me in college. i got a B- and a C (retook for a B, long story). So if I started with calc2, then calc 3 and differential eqn, I would have taken 3 semester as well, since i retook calc3 and i know for sure my gpa would have been better.
