Testing out of Expository Writing

Is there a way to test out of freshman expository writing? I heard that it is the worst class. If I take the AP lit or AP lang test and score a 4 or 5, will I be able to skip expos?

Thanks

I heard you can’t opt out of expos, its like a mandatory class even if you get a 4 or 5 on the AP test.

Taken from The School of Business Guide for 2010 http://undergraduate.rutgers.edu/downloads/sg_business.pdf

An AP score of 4 or 5 on either English Language/Comp or Literature/Comp will place
you out of Expository Writing 101.

AP is the only way out. No way to test out through placement. And other college courses are not accepted to cover it either.

Au contraire. I’m in the Engineering School and my school had a program where my AP classes would count as taking college courses at a local college. Therefore, I transferred in the college equivalent of English Lang & Comp and was allowed to skip Expos. Granted, that’s in the Engineering program, other schools may differ.

Alright thanks guys! I guess I’ll be taking the AP test this year to get out of expos :)

Wait, I’m confused. If a CR of 600+ places you out of the English Placement test but not Expos 101, then what is the test for? o.o

It places you out of the lower level writing course. You automatically qualify for expos.

i placed out of expos by taking the middle college program through FDU…so transfer classes are allowed…im an engg. student so sas will most likely accept those credits as well

Dang. This sucks. I need to get a 4 in AP Lit now :(

If you are trying to get out of Expos I would recommend taking the AP Test for English Language. Last year when my son decided he was going to Rutgers he signed up for the test (even though he wasn’t in the AP class), basically took it cold and got a 5.
