Okay so I was reading the requirements for each program and I come across the one I would like to apply to:

School of Engineering
OPTION 1: SAT Reasoning Test and two SAT Subject Tests: one Math exam (Math Level I or II) and one science exam (either Physics or Chemistry).

OR

OPTION 2: ACT with the Writing Section.

~Does the OR mean that I can be totally exempt from the SAT II subject tests with the completion of the ACT?

I've taken chemistry last year, but the concepts are a little hazy especially since the class moved slowly due to its size. This year I'm taking physics, but I do not have nearly enough knowledge of it to pass the test.

So should I take one and see if I can remember anything, or is the ACT enough?

The ACT + Writing is enough for ALL of your testing. You read the "or" correctly.

[insert soapbox]

I'm personally a proponent of the ACT for prospective students. Though I have no preference about which test an applicant takes when I read their application (and neither does any other Tufts admissions reader), I just think the ACT makes sense for time management purposes. I like my Saturday mornings (read: sleep), and with one Saturday of the ACT, you can take care of all your testing, instead of spending two Saturdays taking the SAT and then the SAT 2s.

[remove soapbox]

We have absolutely do not care which you submit - ACT or SAT and SAT2s - and you can never be hurt by submitting both sets of testing. We will look at whichever paints you in the best light and disregard the other. With Tufts, it is never to your disadvantage to submit all of your testing.

Dan:

While the current version of the SAT only has two years worth of data, what does it show about Tufts maticulants? The Univ. of Cal claims that Subject Tests add little to their app reading process, and are proposing to drop it. OTOH, what value does the ACT offer that the SAT alone does not?

I was wondering about why it is that for SATII's, specifically Math and Physics or Chem are required (for Engineering), but with the ACT you only need to take the general test (as there is no specific). I understand why you might want to see specifically the physics or chemistry scores, but I don't see that the ACT is really an equivalent requirement.
