Testing Stats for admitted athletes, chances to get in

My daughter is in the process of sports recruiting at Cornell. They have been talking for weeks and soon she is going for her official athletic visit. I know that stats are often a little different for athletes than the general pool of applicants. Can anyone share anything they know about the tests scores that athletes admitted to Cornell usually have?

Her unweghted GPA is 4.0. She is taking four APs this year and has already taken two. Her curriculum has been very challenging. She is in a very tough academic magnet school (public) and has a stated interest in the ILR program. The only downside is that she has never tested well and she only has a 28 on the ACT and 1870 on SAT. She just took the ACT again and will retake SAT this month. She has great ECs with lots of leadership and high level sports achievement. How do you think she will fair in the pre read going on right now?

i'd say she has a good shot: athlete or not!

I'm not sure of the stats for athletes. However, i do know you wont get in just because you're good at a sport. You need the grades as well. I think your daughter has a good shot none the less.

ur daughter has a good shot. the athlete recruiting def. helps and don't worry too much about SATs. i've known athletes who get recruited to school with SATs (old test) in the upper 1100s to lower 1200s. then again, who knows what admissions will do. good luck!

Well, Good news on the score front. My daughter's (the athlete) scores went up to a 30 on the ACT from the test on the 24th. Some of her subtests were 31. Hopefully those will be enough better. On the Ranks she was around 96-97%tile so I don't know if she can do better. Hope that is enough.

Thats good. The athlete part really helps and her 4.0uw grade is impressive. She definately has a good shot. SAT and ACT scores aren't everything. There's other important things like personality and your essays. If she puts more effort into that then she'd have a great chance!

Good Luck!

My d boyfriend is being recruited by Cornell and he received a likely letter. He requested this from the Coach. His scored a 30 and has a similar GPA and has taken AP (all fives in the sciences) and honors classes. You might want to consider asking for a likely letter....... then you can experience that wonderful "sigh of relief".

My d experience was one which we were not expecting. Once she visited the school of her choice, her first choice, she found the fit with the team was very disappointing and the classes she attended were a let down. The visits are so important, especially when you are trying to find a good fit academically and athletically. It becomes a difficult balancing act.
