Testmasters Course

Wow, ark02 -- that's an incredible improvement! So far (after 3 classes) my son thinks it's pretty helpful. When he took the the diagnostic test during the first class he scored a 6/12 on the essay; after they covered the essay portion, he scored a 10/12.

hey guys what do u believe the tstmasters course is for people who are bad like around a 1400-1600 and wish to get to a 1800-1900 or people around a 1900-2000 and want to get to a 2300-2400

this course actually sounds incredible...but what kind of knowledge would actually increase your score that much..do people taking this course improve from the strategies they learn or do they improve due to consistent practice.?

I think it's a combination of the 2.

Testmasters also gives its students a list of about 150 vocabulary words and claims that the SAT will cover these words. Anyone know whether they've been accurate in the past?

Their vocab list is as very accurate for the december and january tests usually.

I'm also looking into TextMasters. Where do they get their materials from? Do they use the CB Blue book? What happens if we finished that book before the course?

Yea they use the blue book, but their strategies are pretty awesome. Most of their material consists of real past tests and compilations of the old test. And they're vocab list for January is like 146 words and 99% of the words on the SAt will probably be on it.

Yea I would love to take the course, but live in Cali... i just want that word list....

lol.... doesn't everyone.... mischievious grin

What happens if we used up the blue book as self-study with the TM solutions guilde? Wouldn't the course be useless?

Anyone here actually not receive any help from testmasters?

My parents think these SAT courses are too expensive for them, and I really want to give testmasters a try. Can I pay for the course myself without my parents knowing?

Why don't you just tell your parents you understand their concern, but that you think it's such a benefit you are willing to pay for it yourself. Considering the time commitment involved (e.g, the first class is 4 hours long), they will likely become aware of what you're doing, so it's better for them to know about it. (Note that it's also cheaper than similar courses given by PR and Kaplan's.)

Alternatively, buy the Testmasters Solutions Book (that goes along with the CB Blue Book and self-study using Xiggi's method explained on this board.

Good luck!

I think I will use the alternative method since I already have the necessary materials at home. I currently have a 157 PSAT (72M, 43CR, 42W). Will I be able to get 1800 by May?

hey does most of the course lie in the CB book and Test masters answer guide or is it more to than that and u shoud pay $800 for the course instead of buying their CB answers guide!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

According to my son, the solutions guide is a small portion of the booklet they get thru the Testmasters course; the majority of it deals with strategies (that's not in the solutions book you can get through amazon.com).

If anyone is planning on taking the Testmasters course, my son was given some $25 discount coupons to hand out. You can access a copy of the coupon at:

on the psat i got a 57 WS;51 M; and 54 CR...pretty average. i'm taking the sat on saturday. i'm planning on taking a test masters course in the spring and then take the sat again...i'll be a senior next year and i plan on applying for schools like NYU so i need to get good scores and i'm not a very good test taker. i have the most trouble with math usually...does anybody have some advice??

On the psat I got 72 M, 43 CR, 42 W. As you can see, there is a huge gap. I am a very good test taker; I am just dumb.
