tests/quizzes in a lecture?

So do you take quizzes and/or tests in your Lecture classes? Or is a lecture just....a lecture.

Depends on the course. Most of the time you will take your quizzes/tests in the same room that you go to for lecture, unless it's a final or possibly a midterm, which sometimes are held in larger rooms. Your "lecture classes" are more than likely a time slot that will hold tests for your class.

Affirmative.

so what the hell do we do during discussions then? i always thought the test/quizzes were administered in discussions

discussions SOMETIMES have quizzes, never tests. usually they're a problem-solving session where you ask questions, sort of like an office hours kind of thing with more students and a TA instead of a professor

is it mandatory to go to the discussions? like, do they take roll and stuff?

Depends on the class. I know some engineering classes don't because they are optional. Meaning, the discussion is there only to aid those people having problems with their project. If you're project is going smoothly, you didn't have any reason to attend.

Most classes seem to require you to attend, though.

classes like math 10/20 series you take quizzes during dicussion and tests during lecture...
some chem teachers have seperate date and times for tests, and sometimes have quizzes in lecture or discussion.... so... basically it all depends on the prof...
