<p>In order to qualify as an academic admit to Texas A&M, do you have to go to high school in Texas or is it for anyone who applies? Apparently, academic admission is where if you're in the top 25% of your class and you get an ACT score of 30, then you're automatically accepted. It sounds like this is for anyone, but those qualifications seem too easy to be true.</p>
<p>Academic admission is open to anyone, including non-Texas residents.</p>
<p>I was told that in addition to the 30 (ACT) you must have taken the optional writing part. Does anyone know where I can find that on the website? I was originally told that since my son has taken the SAT writing (no scores yet) he shouldn't sign up for the ACT writing unless he thinks it will HELP his score. English is not my son's strong subject, so we didn't opt for the writing. I'm trying to find out if he HAS the SAT writing does he also need the ACT writing.</p>
<p>I can probably call them and ADD it if that's the right choice. Please advise! I'd like to see the academic admissions policy in writing, but I haven't found it on their site yet.</p>

<p>Yes that's true. Or to qualify with the SAT you must be top 25% with a SAT Critical Reading + Math score of at least 1300, with each being at least 600.</p>
<p>But it only applies for applicants graduating TEXAS high schools. So doesn't apply for OOS.</p>
<p>And yeah... it does seem to "too easy," but it's true.</p>
<p>The page for Top 10% states you must be in-state, but the Academic Admits doesn't say anything about residence.</p>

<p>My first post. Regarding TAMU’s auto admission, how is class rank handled by colleges when students attend an academic magnet school? My son is in the mid-range of his senior class but most of the students would be in the top 10% of their neighborhood schools. He scored 33 on his ACT, 8 AP classes, 12 hours of dual college credit classes, played 2 major sports throughout HS, Eagle Scout, and other extracurriculars. He submitted his TAMU application at the end of November so the waiting begins…</p>
<p>mama2son2011, I’m pretty sure if he’s ranked lower than 25% he cannot be an AcademicAdmit. They are pretty clear about the criteria. The 33 should be enough to get him in as a review applicant, but he really applied late. I would say he will get in for sure, but his desired major may be full. That’s not so bad - he can switch in later. Good luck!</p>
<p>We beat the January 15 closing date and the December scholarship deadline. I thought that he was in good shape. Guess I should have started checking CC sooner! I can relate to your screen name, AllThisIsNewToMe. His major is Mathematics.</p>
