Texas A&M chances

Hello everyone, this is my first post on CC and I was just hoping for some insight into what would be my chances if I applied to Texas A&M. I’m heading into my senior year and I just wanted to know how I stand at this point. I am a Texas resident as well.

Rank: 123/505 (I know it’s pretty bad!)
GPA: 3.76-3.8 (UW) 4.1-4.2 (W) (mostly A’s and B’s)
SAT: 1890 (CR: 680) (Math: 600) (Writing: 610) I plan to retake in October
ACT: Haven’t taken but plan to take in September
AP Classes: World History, English Lang., Statistics, US History, Physics, English Lit., Government, Economics
ECs: Part of the HS soccer team for 4 years (JV 1 year, Varsity 3 years) and I’m also Varsity captain (would that count as leadership?)
Part of a travel soccer team for 5 years
Acolyte at my church
A member of my school’s NHS
Employee at a local restaurant (Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburger Restaurant)
Plan to join our school’s engineering group

Awards/honors: 2nd Team All district 2013/2014, Offensive MVP for school 2013/2014, 1st Team All District 2014/2015, Offensive MVP for school 2014/2015

Thank you guys and girls for all feedback!
And also my preferred major is Civil Engineering

P.S. I’m also African American, can you guys please clarify if it has any importance? I honestly don’t think it does but a lot of my friends say it will give me an advantage, I’m pretty confused at this point lol.

To make my AP class list clearer:

Sophomore: World History
Junior: Statistics, English Lang., US History
Senior (planning on taking): Physics, English Lit., Government, Economics, Biotech Engineering (I think this is weighted as an AP class at our school

Hey, just thought I’d let you know that when you retake the SAT, if you can improve your CR+M score by 20 points to a 1300, with your current rank (top 24%) you can be automatically admitted as what they call an “academic admit”. This doesn’t guarantee you’ll receive your major, but you’ll definitely get into the college if you raise your score just a bit.

ya I was really disappointed to miss out by 20 points but I’m going to make sure I study extra hard this next test and improve my score. Thank you for the info!

Anyone else? What about chances to go to VT, Penn State, or UT Austin? Thank you for any feedback.

bump

I’m applying for Texas A&M but as a transfer! Anywho, I think your in a Texas A&M. UT, I think you have a good chance but should raise your SAT. Penn State, you have a good chance, your right at the median. Virginia Tech, I’m not sure really.

Thanks Missy! I’m sure you’ll get in as well.
