Hey yall
I am currently a junior in HS in Houston, TX and I really want to go to Texas a&m. I am hoping to petroleum engineering also. My stats are:
3.3 UW gpa
4.7 weighted gpa
ACT: 34 composite
31 Math
33 Science
34 English
36 Reading
3 years varsity golf, around 50 service hours, worked for 2 summers.
Not a whole lot of Ec’s, I know but would I have a chance?
Also if you know anything about my chances at Ga Tech or Purdue also that would help

Well, you aren’t going to be an auto-admit. You’ll have to be accepted as a review applicant, and that’s going to be tough with that class rank. Engineering at A&M is one of the most competitive departments to get accepted into, and PetE is one of the most difficult of all the engineering majors to get accepted into, so even with your nice ACT score, it will be tough to get accepted. Ga Tech won’t be likely. Purdue - well, you’re out of state, so that makes it tough, plus Purdue does not have PetE, so you’d have to do ChemE, ME, or something like Geological Engineering (which is not a great fit for PetE). On the other hand, UH has a good PetE program, as does OU and LSU, so look around at some other schools as well. While you may not want to stay in Houston for college, UH is pretty nice!
