Texas A&M Gateway Program

Hi, I got admitted into the TAMU Gateway program. What’s the difference between the gateway and the blinn team? How’s the gateway program (opinions from students that participated in the program)

I know that i have to attend a 5 week course, and not get a failing grade in any class and get at least a 2.0 GPA or higher.

@Carlos57 Gateway is a summer school class like you said and if you maintain the GPA for the classes you take you will be automatically in as a A&M full admit student in the fall…that’s great for you! CONGRATS! if you don’t mind me asking what were your stats? GPA, Class Rank, ACT or SAT, Extra Circulars? and also when did you apply and find out? We have heard NOTHING and applied 9/22…

Hi, sure no problem
ACT:18
SAT:940
GPA: 3.55
Class rank: 254/638
Computer Science
Extra curricular: 4yrs football and 800hrs community service

I applied 11/30 and found out about a week ago

@TAMUMOM72

Congratulations, @Carlos57!! Both programs are offered by admissions to A&M and neither can be applied to. Gateway To Success is a provional program for full admissions to Texas A&M. You must satisfy the requirements set forth. You will be eligible to participate in all University activities as a member of the incoming freshman class. Here is a useful link. Be sure to check out all of the links on the left side of the page for more information about the program. https://tap.tamu.edu/gateway/
Since you were not offered Blinn Team, you are not eligible for it. It is a privisional program that offers full admissions as well, after the criteria is met, with some colleges haveing automatic acceptance to majors through their pathway agreements. The majority of the classes are taken at Blinn Jr College, and 1-2 classes at A&M. Blinn Team students also are eligible to participate in all University activities as a member of the incoming freshman class and full university access to amenities.

Congratulations on your admissions. Be sure to take care of your “Next Steps” that are listed on your AIS and good luck with your program. Be prepared to study more than you ever had to do in high school. Time management and the amount of time to devote to studying, reading, etc. to do well, is surprising to some students who didn’t have to do such to achieve good grades in high school. Your syllabus is a great tool. Read ahead before lecture so it makes more sense when you attend class. Take good notes. Re-read the chapter. Do the assignments and attend any supplimental instruction offered. Go by your professor’s office hours at the second you have a question or trouble. Asking for help early can be really beneficial.

My son’s first roommate did gateway, he did not make it to the Fall. They REALLY do evaluate your progress and take away your admission if you don’t meet the required stats. If you decide to go the Gateway route - looking at your current stats, you have some extra studying to do to be up to the benchmark of other TAMU students - review math first - you will need to take a math entrance exam. Congratulations on your offer - it will involve some work on your part, just know that there are MANY review admits who would LOVE your opportunity — value it and work hard to make the most of your offer. Best of luck!

Dang, that’s really lucky considering you had an 18 on the ACT and 940 on the SAT. Class ranking is also pretty low.

Those 800 hours of community service really must have helped.
