I really want to go to TAMU. I have gotten in, accepted, and paid the deposit on housing. But, I NEED financial aid or I cannot go. I already did the FAFSA and my EFC is just over $7000. My brother is in college and gets enough aid that the left over net price is workable. But he is at a private school.

Do I have any hope?

Are you instate? Do you qualify for any merit there?

Did you run the NPC?

Will your parents pay your EFC?

TAMU pads its COA, so if you’re thrifty, you can pare down some costs. Work over the summer and bank what you make to pay for books and other things. Work part time over the school year to pay for day to day expenses.

How much are your parents paying for your brother? His EFC should also go down, and will he get more aid from his school?

My parents can pay the EFC, but it seems the NPC for TAMU does not really work. It says I will get somewhere between $0-$17,000 in aid. I am instate. I did not get any merit aid. I thought I would. I am top 10% and my SAT was 2100 and I have great references. AP National Scholar with distinction, 216 PSAT. But nothing for merit aid.

And I have a summer job and am hoping for a work study next year.

You may still get some merit…that’s why the range is given on the NPC?

Don’t forget about the 2K Top 10% Scholarship. Check out details at College for all Texans. It is automatic with even $1 of need.

What is your Math +CR? Merit is usually based on that…not the total SAT. If your W score is high, that won’t likely help with merit.
