I've noticed a lot of "what are my chances" posts, but i can't help but post another.

I've got around a 3.0 or 3.5 GPA.
I was active in JROTC while I was still in public school. Drill Team captain along with many other JROTC related achievements..
I wrote all three essays for the admissions thing, and I feel that they're pretty solid.
26 on the ACT
I am out of state, I live in Louisiana.
I'm homeschooled, so I'm considered in the top 25%

Texas A&M is my goal right now. I have my whole...life, practically, planned out and A&M was one of those steps. I mean, of course, I have backup plans, but plan B never seems as good. I was..really..well, I feel like a loser for not getting accepted. My family has moved a lot, I've been to 4 different high schools. I worked really hard to take challenging classes in high school and NEVER took a blow off class. Now, that's all been ruined with the moving around...my transcripts have been messed up. After attending 3 different public schools, I switched to a homeschooling program which only accepts certain credits. I had to use THEIR transcript to send to A&M, and it shows MAYBE half of the credits I've actually taken...I have a feeling this is the main reason they did not accept me. I did explain this all in the essay, but...who knows if they read them.. I just hate the fact that my whole time in high school looks like a mess now because of something that was out of my control.

Bottom line, I really want to go to A&M, I want to be in the corps, and I really just want to FINALLY go to a school for four years in a row...and finish when I'm supposed to and stuff. I don't WANT to transfer or deal with that crap anymore, but if I have to I guess I will.

So, what are my chances for waitlist? How good is that Blinn program? Does anyone know how the whole Galveston thing works out...as far as Navy ROTC switching to Army ROTC (if I were to transfer to College Station...I want to get in the army.

I'd really appreciate any advice or...thoughts. Thanks.

Have you already received your admission decision, and, if so, what was it? Is your homeschooling transcript the only one A&M has, or do they also have your public school transcripts?

The homeschool transcript is all they have, and yeah…they said they couldn’t “offer me a place” but I didn’t apply for Waitlist, Blinn Team…and all other options that they had available.

Did they give you the option of Waitlist/Blinn Team?

When i got offered Waitlist they said that they couldnt extend full admition but that if i chose to i could be on the Waitlist or any of the other options.

Did you see any of these?

If you did, say YES. IF you dont then you dont have any chance simply because you said NO to the options they gave you.

Yeah, I clicked yes on EVERYTHING. Haha, there were like…four options, and under one of them were 6 different schools or something. I checked “yes” to it all.

dowhatnow, does A&M know you are interested in the Corps? Have you been to Corps programs? If they give you the option of Galveston, you serve one year there and transfer in your sophomore year right into the Corps. It can be into any branch the CoC offers. If you really want to go to A&M and join the Corps, and they offer you the special unit at Galveston for this purpose, take it.

Oh ok. then good. Aparently they sent out a record number of Waitlists this year. like 7000. But only about half of those are expected to except the option.

Still thats alot of people to fill open spots, kinda scary in my opion.

gxgal7:
Awesome, I was worried about the whole transferring thing. Galveston seems like a cool place, too. I did check yes to being interested in the Corps on my application, so I’d guess that they do know. One of my essays was also centered around my experience in JROTC and how I’d like to apply it to ROTC…or something like that (seems so long ago when I wrote them…).

I’ll seriously consider the Galveston option, though. Thanks.

nikabenica - I’ve noticed a lot of kids at my school who had their heart set on A&M and they got a surprise acceptance to UT Austin, so they decided to go there. That kinda helps us A lot of kids apply to both A&M and UT, and I know many who choose UT simply because it’s supposed to be “harder” to get in. So I hope that leaves a bit of room (:

dowhat - of all the options, blinn team is most like being an a&m student. you can even be in the corps. so that will e your BEST option if offered.

i would make sure they know that you want to be in the corps in case that willhelp your case.

My son was also offered the waitlist/Blinn team etc. option. We were shocked and felt he would be a “shoe in” on the review admission because he missed automatic admission by such a small margin (both ways of auto admission).
He has a 3.89 GPA and had a 620 Math/540 Critical Reading on the SAT. His class ranking puts him at 12.4 percentile. He is involved in sports teams, PALS etc. We were shocked and hope his chances of getting in off of the waitlist are good. He accepted the BlinnTeam and Galveston options, but hope we don’t have to utilize those.
He has been told he should have chosen a different major, is that right? He chose Business-unspecified and Economics as a second choice. We just knew he would get in on the review option and now that that did not happened, I’m worried!!! Should he visit one of the perspective student centers and speak to one of the advisors there or just leave well enough alone?

He applied on November 18th and the website shows that everything was processed on November 24th. We wondered if they just forgot to look at his app.

wow, I expected you to tell me January 15. I am sad for you, he should have been admitted - many many kids here with much lower scores did.
my own daughter was in 12% with a little less on the Math SAt and she received early admission, class of '13. My daughter had lots of community service hours on her application, lots of EC’s, and had taken Dual Credit courses on the campus of a state university in our town. I cant help believe it was the prospective student center visit, the campus tours, the private tour of the architecture program, going to one of A&M’s activities for high school students (SLOT) put her in the admitted catagory. And having two Aggies for parents could not have hurt.
who knows what is going on here. I’d be like you. I’d want to know.
if it were me, I’d actually go to the prospective student center. I wish you would have done it as a part of the application process. It is my advice to all kids not auto admits to visit their prospective student centers.
Blinn team isn’t the worst thing that can happen. One of my daughters roommates is on Blinn team. She can go to all the A&M activities, games, etc - and takes a class on A&M campus - then goes to Blinn, even the shuttle buss goes to Blinn. Still an Aggie.
I really wish your son well. Make an appointment soon at the prospective student center, maybe you can at least get an answer.
Class of '13 was the largest freshman class in history - and A&M rejected the most kids ever. this year might break that record. I guess the economy is keeping the private schools empty and the Texas Flagship schools peaked out. A&M & UT are becoming very difficult to get into.

Yeah, we have heard the same things number wise. Scary!! We have already arranged housing at one of the off campus dorms and we are just hoping for the best! He has his roommate, who has already been admitted, and will make the best out of the Blinn experience if that is what happens. Now I am beginning to worry about that too. It seemed like April took forever to get here, now I will count down the days until mid-May.

My son plans to get directly over to the Student Center here. It’s one of those things . . . may not help, but sure can’t hurt!!
