Hey/Howdy y’all
I need opinions and experiences to help guide me in choosing a University.
I am currently looking for a University to transfer to for the Fall of 2020. My top choices are Texas A&M and Auburn. I toured both and feel that I liked both campus atmospheres equally. I found professors, students, and the communities extremely friendly and laid-back (and had a lot of school spirit).
At the moment, I am leaning towards Texas A&M because I love all of the traditions; I know Auburn has traditions too, but not as many as A&M. I also feel that Texas A&M has a stronger program (my major is Animal Science) and alumni network. I would like to start up my own business after college so a good entrepreneurship center is a big factor in my decision too. I also have thoughts of pursuing a Masters in Animal Science after I complete my undergrad.
I am a PA resident so I would be paying out of state tuition at either university (I know that A&M is quite a bit more). I would be living off campus because I have a dog, so dorms are not an issue for me.
Any advice, feedback, or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Have your been following/plan to follow the transfer course sheet for Animal Science at A&M? If not, you need to be. The transfer course sheets spell out exactly what you need as minimum requirements (and maximum - no more than 75 hours). A competitive applicant will meet more than the minimum requirements.

Yes. I have been following the plan for the Science Option and will be caught up with the required courses and have completed almost all general education requirements at the time I submit my transfer application in January.
We looked at the animal science programs at Auburn and A&M. If you like both I would choose A&M. It has an excellent department and great alumni network. It would probably be your best choice going forward on to graduate school. Did you also look at Colorado State? It has a wonderful program (it was a little too expensive for us). Our son didn’t like the atmosphere of A&M (and it was too close to home!) and Auburn didn’t offer us the deal we got where he ended up! Good luck!
I always say that there isn’t that much difference between one flagship and another. That said, Auburn is half the size of A&M, and I do like it when schools get smaller, not larger. Plus, Auburn is still plenty large (25K undergrads vs A&M’s 54K), has a massive sports scene, and has plenty of passionate alumni. Go where you wish, OP. In the end, you’ll be fine at either one.
