Hi guys! I am an international student and I have been accepted by both these college/university. I want to study engineering(either Mechanical engineering or Electrical engineering). I got a financial package from Lafayette College. But since I got a 1000 dollars scholarship in Texas A&M, I will be qualified to pay only in-state tuition. Which of two school do you guys recommend, in terms of academics/extracurricular activities/employment/co-op or internship?

These are two very different schools. Maybe the only similarity is that they both have respected engineering. You don’t mentiont the amont of financial aid at Lafayette. What is the cost differential? What kind of experience are you looking for?

My Lafayette financial package is 30500,including loan and job. But with the in-state tuition, Texas A&M is still cheaper. One thing I like about Lafayette is the small class setting and the discussions in class but I also like many other things offered in Texas A&M(like the co-op, internships, etc). I know many of the classes(especially introductory classes) in A&M are quite large. Does that mean that there is little dicussion during class? Are some of the classes taught by graduate student instead of professors? Are professors acessible?

These are two vastly different schools in vastly different parts of the country. I am always amazed at people who apply to such differing schools. What are they thinking?

TexasAM is one of the largest schools in the country. Lafayette is one of the smallest. I have nothing against A &M, but I always favor small schools. Did you apply to nearby Lehigh? Lehigh is better known for engineering. Regardless, Lafayette is a wonderful school and you will get fabulous personal attention in small classes. Go there.

Texas A&M has a much higher-ranking and more visible engineering program.
