Texas A&M Quick Question

I’m applying for engineering, and I got an email saying the early action deadline is coming up (15th) … on the apply Texas app I don’t see an option for early action… is it where you just apply before then and are automatically considered?
Thanks!

TAMU has rolling admission. If you are applying at the deadlines, you have a very small chance of getting into Engineering.

It’s only the deadline for early action
would I just be better off doing regular decision?

I know. The point is that those who want into Engineering applied on Day 1. TAMU does not wait around to get all of the applications in. They start handing out slots to auto-admits as they get them. Every day you wait lessens your chance to get into the College of Engineering. Not all universities do it this way, but TAMU does. Get moving!

alright, I will! thanks!

@mtgriffin What is said herein is no longer true for A&M Engineering as of the class of 2021. Engineering now has its own application besides the Apply Texas Application. Every application is under review, auto admits, academic admits and review admits. In the past, engineering did fill up quickly, as the auto/academic admits filled the spots as they came in. However, A&M realized that not all auto and academic admits are capable or qualified to handle the engineering classes as required right out of the gate first semester, and a lot of students dropped engineering. For better retention of applicants, and part of their 25x25 initiative, they instituted the review of all applicants. So, a top 2% in state applicant, while will be auto accepted into the university, may not be admitted into engineering.

@Thelma2 is computer science considered an engineering major? my son is yet to file his tamu application today. can he still apply for computer science even after the oct 15 early action deadline? does missing the oct 15 mean he will miss out with scholarships? thanks.

@gmc0508 Yes, computer science, is in the engineering school. The early decision deadline was October 15 and the regular deadline is Dec. 1. Your son has until 11:59 tomorrow to submit his application. Someone else more versed in the scholarships will need to chime in here on that but I think those applying to Honors College needed to meet the early decision deadline, not those applying for scholarships.

Thanks so much @Thelma2 !
