Texas A&M University Class of 2026

Sorry, I realized that after I posted. Also, is there any way you can call up financial aid office and request for merit scholarship. Or is this a done deal?

@Krish_Krishnavihar the deadline for incoming freshman to apply for scholarships was December 1. Did your student apply by then?
You can not request scholarships.

Yes, we applied for scholarships before Dec1st

They do have something called counter offer if you have outside scholarships and it’s done by your prospective student center, I would call them and ask.

Good! Scholarships can still show up, even after the school year starts. BUT, just know that the majority of students at A&M don’t receive scholarships. Most that receive them are National Merit (semi & finalist), need based and Century Scholars (identified under represented schools in Texas). Departmental/major specific scholarships may be awarded after freshman year.
Make sure your student reapplies yearly, for the continuing student scholarship application (Oct 15-Feb 1). And make sure your student checks FinAid tab in Howdy weekly; if a scholarship is awarded, that’s where it will show up, and student will need to ‘accept’ it.

Does anybody know if you receive anything in the mail for an acceptance from Galveston?

@coopercuffe like a banner? If so, yes, Galveston sends out an Aggie By The Sea banner.

Yes you do! You get a letter (also available in the AIS) as well as a banner. There may be stickers but I don’t remember.

My son received a box with banner, stickers, and a few other items from Galveston.

Does anybody have any input on if they would recommend Galveston for a year and do the change of major process or Blinn for a year doing PTA? Thanks in advance.

If the major is in college of engineering, PTA doesn’t have an option for that.

There is something similar to PTA called Engineering Academy where you are taught at a community college of your choice (from the list) and also taught by TAMU professors on the site of the community college. However, this option is not available in the CSTAT-Blinn option, the Blinn option is Blinn-Brenham as the Blinn-CSTAT option is only available by invite. Thus if you are doing engineering (the only option/major I know of other than Marine majors at Galveston) it may be easier going through Galveston as it is an ETAM process same as CSTAT and you are already full A&M students (you have the same classes and requirements) rather than having to meet the Engineering Academy requirements.

@coopercuffe what major? Have you been accepted to Galveston?
Personally, I’d much rather my student go to Galveston-full TAMU acceptance (dorms, Sports Pass, campus life, they’re an Aggie) -vs attending community college. Lots of factors to consider tho…

When does TAMU release housing selection time slots? I believe I’ve read April, but just curious if it is tomorrow or later in the month?

@Kimvogel it’s usually mid Aprilish? Everyone gets their selection time on the same day, parents will post what day/time their student has, so ppl can figure out where they are in line. The times are posted early enough for students to make alternative arrangements, in case they have a conflict during their selection time.
If you’re on the FB parent pages, there will be LOTS of Housing chatter…

So, my daughter got PSA. She was looking at Animal Science. She was disappointed at first, because we are an Aggie family, but she was accepted into UC Davis and is excited to be heading there, even if we are sad she is leaving Texas for school. I am surprised she got into UC Davis, but not A&M.

@Doodle2629 wow! Admission to UCDavis, but not A&M?! That’s crazy…but how exciting for her!!

Not the same but the Aggie tradition continues as UC Davis students are also considered Aggies, congrats to her on that acceptance!!

I’ve seen post regarding not accepting AP credits until you need them. Can someone explain the reason? Does this have something to do with GPA for ETAM at TAMU? I’m asking for a friend’s child who is attending a different university?

One reason I’ve heard is to keep flexibility to transfer schools within TAMU if you realize you are in the wrong major. Most of the schools will not allow you to transfer in after you hit 60 credits. So for example, someone starts intent on biomedical engineering but after a year and the ETAM process decides they want to pursue a pure bio major instead. If they accepted 40 AP credits on entry, they would be too far along to switch schools.

I am sure there are nuances of what a wrote here that are not 100% accurate but the basic idea holds.

@Kimvogel what @joelatte said is correct, and a big reason not to accept AP credits (dual credit apply automatically, and that can be a real bummer).
For example, Mays Business does not allow internal change of majors with more than 60 hours.
Students need to wait and go over AP credits with advisor, as some may be used in place of an elective, while some have AP credits that are never accepted. Advisor will go over all this. Just make sure your student doesn’t accept any AP credits before meeting with advisor.
No idea about other universities.
