Hello, thank you for looking at my thread.
Petroleum Engineering (First Choice) / Communications (Second Choice)
I've heard communications was one of the easier majors to get into, if I am admitted into communications, planning to transfer into Engineering in the year.

Top 60%
Upwards trend starting from truly the bottom of my class in Freshman, fighting to top half. Should be there by end of senior.
Almost All AP/Pre-AP Courses.
SAT Composite 1370, 2080(Total)
By end of Senior will have (hopefully) 7 AP tests.
Decent EC : Have a moderate amount of leadership positions (4), high participating in Orchestra, standard volunteering across 4 organizations.
I think my essays (all three) were strong, and were given the "thumbs-up" from alumni to Ivy's, and former teachers alike.
One strong recommendation letter.

Applied towards the latter half of October, any guesses on when I would hear back?
Thanks,
Daniel

You should hear back in February most likely, applications are reviewed in order they are received, so submitting for early decision gives you a bonus. Your SAT is fine, above average for TAMU, about average for UT, your class rank is your biggest downfall. SAT + Class rank are the 2 biggest factors when it comes to being accepted to a larger university. Most review admits don’t make the 25% class rank however some don’t make the 1300 composite requirement, for instance I am ranked 13% of my class, got over the 1300 composite(740 math, 580 verbal) but didn’t make the 600 requirement for verbal.

One more thing, major doesn’t affect your admissions decision at TAMU, not sure about UT but should be the same.

Verbal is another word for the reading section of the SAT. In order to be automatically admitted to TAMU you need to be either in the top 10% of your class or top 25% with a 1300composite SAT(math and reading) with at least 600 on each section. For instance I got a 740 on math and 580 on reading, that adds up to 1320 but I didn’t get the 600 on reading to be automatic admit.

The CAP program would be good! If you get offered that instead of acceptance, definitely go for it.

~180 shared by Honor Society and a generic school volunteering club.
A healthy amount of leadership positions, active involvement (+leadership) in fine arts throughout all four years

Yeah, you’re fine. The leadership + SAT scores will definitely set you apart from the average TAMU person. I live in College Station, and I’ve seen people with worse skill stats being accepted (Not even top 25%, auto admit). If your essays are good (as you say they are), you are definitely fine. I would say you have a 95-98% of getting into TAMU. However, based on your major, I think you have only a 60-70% chance of getting into that chosen major. TAMU is one of the best schools for petroleum engineering. You have no trouble getting into the school, but the major might be a problem.

As for UT, luck is involved. Your SAT scores are definitely better than my peers who got accepted into UT (but they were auto admits - top 7%). I would say you have a 60% chance of getting into UT.

I’ve been told that my rank will prevent me from getting into either school because of how much weight Texas schools put on GPA and Rank, is this true?
