Texas A&M - Veeery weak GPA

<p>So im applying to Texas A&M with a very weak GPA
I have a GPA of about 2.7 (weighted)
I have an 1890 on my SAT (taking it again)
I will have taken 4 AP classes by graduation 2 AP English, 2 AP Spanish
5 on my AP Spanish Language and Composition
3 on my AP English Language and Composition
I dont know my class rank but i expect it to be really bad (more than 50%)
I go to a small private high school and there are only 18 students in my senior class.
My senior year grade has drastically improved (about 90% average)
I plan to do all 3 essays
I'm sending in 3 recommendation letters, one from an A&M alumni
I am an amerian citizen, born in Nicaragua, lived here and studied here all my life
Strong extracurrics
What are my chances?</p>

<p>Chance me at all my schools please:
Texas A&M
Dallas Baptist University
Trinity University
Loyola University
Florida Atlantic University
Penn State University: University Park</p>

<p>I don’t know much about any of the other schools, but PSU is a definite reach, especially OOS.</p>

<p>wow okay here’s what to do:

  1. pay to hide your AP test grades from schools except that 5 (and maybe not the 3, idk)
  2. study like heck for ACT or SAT (i prefer ACT) and retake
  3. Work RIGHT NOW to get all A’s or w/e you can muster (which i feel like… is a lot based on your SATs)
  4. MARK “LATINO/HISPANIC” on the app.
  5. write a really good essay and get people to read over it.</p>

<p>i think if you do those things, Texas A&M will be a safety, otherwise i think it’s kinda a match. sorry i can’t judge the other shcools.</p>

<p>chance me back? <a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/786831-let-me-chance-you.html[/url]”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/786831-let-me-chance-you.html&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

<p>thanks moosecream,
Dude, i think you misunderstood me. I didn’t get 2’s on my AP tests. I meant i was gonna take 2 Spanish AP tests and 2 English AP tests by the time i graduate. From the ones i have already taken, i got a 5 in Spanish and 3 in English.
So, do you think i can get in?</p>

<p>Buuuump!!!</p>

<p>Texas A&M - Yeahhhhh… Maybe with a 2100+ SAT, but lookin Grim EVEN then
Dallas Baptist University - Match? DBU doesn’t impress me mind you.
Trinity University - Slight Reach-Match, they were (are?) number one is master’s program west</p>

<p>Loyola University - Well Loyola Chicago? California? New Orleans? or Maryland? I’m unfamiliar with those anyhow. But Chicago is a Match-Reach. New Orleans is a Match-Safety. Loyola Marymount in California is a match. Loyola in Maryland is a match.
But I’m not sure about any of these, I don’t have any experience, I’m going off of the few people that DO know these schools and what i’ve read.</p>

<p>Florida Atlantic University -Match? idk
Penn State University: University Park - Uh Slight Reach? idk…</p>

<p>I would apply to one of the UTs, like UTA, UTEP, UTPA…etc</p>

<p>And I can’t say that they will ignore your race, even though A&M will claim to.
But don’t ride on the fact that you’re Hispanic, because that’s why they created the whole top 10% rule.
Only a few public schools and basically all the private look at Race as a factor.
Texas Public schools and California Public schools, I know DON’T.</p>

<p>Another factor.
I have a 3.7-ish GPA now. If I apply now and don’t get an answer this year, I could send them my transcript next year with the updated GPA and have a better chance, no? That would bump my GPA to at least more than a 3.0-3.2.</p>

<p>hey… i read that TEXAS A&M takes you if you have a combined CR AND MATH score of 1300 or above…
check this out:</p>

<p>[Academic</a> Admits](<a href=“http://admissions.tamu.edu/freshmen/gettingin/waysAdmitted/academic.aspx]Academic”>http://admissions.tamu.edu/freshmen/gettingin/waysAdmitted/academic.aspx)</p>

<p>3.7ish sounds good… try and maintain that…</p>

<p>good luck!</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>IF you’re in the top 25% of your graduating class, and unless the OP goes to a really weak school, I doubt a 2.7 is in the top 25%.</p>

<p>I’d say doubtful for A&M regular admit. You might get offered Blinn Team, but even that is getting more and more competitive.</p>

<p>Good luck!</p>

<p>Thanks, I know I don’t have much chance, but I’m still trying.
What about U Mass Amherst?</p>

<p>buuuump???</p>

<p>bump!!!</p>

<p>Well Penn State isn’t that easy but that SAT score might get u in</p>

<p>Actually, I ruled Penn State out.
What about the other ones?
Specially A&M…</p>
