Texas A&M

Hi, I'm a college student in Florida and starting my sophomore year, I've been looking into the undergraduate biomedical sciences program at Texas A&M. Does anyone know the acceptance rate for this program? have any tips? or maybe there is another college you recommend? I am looking into pursuing a career in anesthesiology.

Also, look through A&M’s site about transfer admissions. Are you looking to be a tech? As far as other suggestions, speak to medical professionals (even anesthesiology techs) you know. If you’re hoping to specialize in anesthesiology as a physician, you should be able to access pre-med guidance.

Also consider the costs of the two colleges.

Best thing you can do for A&M is make sure you get National Merit Finalist - A&M (and also UT Dallas in Texas) has huge push to bribe national merit finalists with good money. I know multiple people (recent NM Finalists) offered free rides.

It is great to have goals (anesthesiology) - but realize that the vast majority of college students change majors and your undergraduate major has less bearing than you might expect on medical school acceptance. Be flexible - and don’t pick the university solely on one program. Biomedical is fascinating, but perhaps more appropriate as graduate degree and many engineering and science choices are available for undergraduates which are complementary to biomedical graduate programs or medical school. I even started as a biomedical and changed majors my freshman year when I found even more interesting courses.

It is my understanding that transfer admissions are handled by the department/college you are applying to versus admissions. Admissions just makes sure you ‘fill the squares’ academically to be eligible but the decision for an offer comes from the college itself. Contact the department directly to ask the average GPA overall and within your major that has recently gained transfer admission. http://vetmed.tamu.edu/bims/future/transfer-students</a> There is also a course equivalency link under FAQ that will help to translate your current courses to TAMU courses. Good luck!
