Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science: Chance Me/Info Needed

Hello everyone! I made a chance me for TAMS page back at the beginning of my freshman year, and now I am a sophomore getting ready to apply. I am rather nervous about admissions, as I come from a rural area, and I haven’t had many opportunities that you can find at a larger school (part of the reason I want to attend TAMS). I am also concerned about the essay and short answers, simply because I haven’t applied to a program such as this in the past and I’m not sure what they look for. That being said, my grades, extracurriculars/awards, and test scores are pretty good, so I’m hoping that they will help me.

Grades
Math: I have received a 97 or higher in Pre-AP Prealgebra (grade 7), Honors Algebra 1 (grade 8), and Honors Geometry (grade 9). I am currently enrolled in Honors Algebra 2, and I got a 100 on my last report card.

Science: I have received a 97 or higher in 7th grade Pre-AP Science, 8th grade Pre-AP Science, and Honors Biology (grade 9). I am currently enrolled in Honors Chemistry, and I got a 100 on my last report card.

ELAR: I have received a 97 or higher in 7th grade Pre-AP Reading, 7th grade Pre-AP English, 8th grade Pre-AP ELAR, and Honors English 1 (grade 9). I am currently enrolled in Honors English 2, and I got a 100 on my last report card.

History: I have received a 97 or higher in Pre-AP Texas History (grade 7), Pre-AP US History (grade 8), and Honors World Geography (grade 9). I am currently enrolled in Honors World History, and I got a 100 on my last report card.

Dual Credit: I have received a 95 (highest grade for DC courses through my high school, I don’t know why) in DC Learning Frameworks (grade 9) and DC Music Appreciation (grade 9). I am currently enrolled in DC Psychology, and I got a 95 on my last report card.

ACT Scores
I will take the ACT on October 24th, but on my most recent practice test my scores were: English-36, Reading-36, Science-34, Math-30. I’m hoping to bring up my math score a little bit by test day.

If there are any current TAMS students, alumni, or anyone else who is knowledgeable about the topic, please feel free to weigh in on my chances. Also, if anyone has any advice on admissions (especially essays, interviews, etc.) or any other TAMS topic I would appreciate it. Thank you for your time

Hello. I would greatly appreciate it if somebody would reply to this thread with any thoughts or advice. I’m extremely nervous about admissions, and I would like to have a deeper understanding of my chances.

I’d say you have a really good chance, especially if you can get math yourself just a little bit higher! The interview is a really important part of the app so if you haven’t had yours yet I’d take time to prepare for that - they want to make sure you’re independent and self-sufficient enough to thrive in the TAMS environment!
