I have been accepted into the business school at Penn State, LSA at U Mich, and the undergrad school at U Texas @ Austin. Being a PA resident over the course of four years the cost of Penn State is about 60k less then either Texas or Michigan. Do you think the extra 60k it would take to go to either Texas or Michigan is worth it over Penn State's Business School. I am majoring in Finance and plan on working either for a Financial Firm or going to Law School after undergrad. Assuming I got the exact same grades at either college do you think there is a significant difference in the way these colleges are viewed? Thanks so much.

Michigan will be the most expensive OOS. Texas has one of the best business programs in the world. Penn State has the highest recruitment rate by employers (circa the Wall Street journal).

Weigh the benefits and negatives of each. If you can get enough financial aid for Texas, go there. Same with Michigan. Otherwise, Penn State is a great school (but it’s VERY big).

All are excellent schools. Unless there is somethig so unique about one of them that is worth the extra $60K, go to Penn State. Costs will only go up over four years, so the difference may be more than $60K, and you’re looking at grad school, too. You will get a great education at any of them, so be smart financially.

by “undergrad school at U Texas @ Austin”, are you referring to the school of undergraduate studies (aka undeclared major)? If that is the case, just be aware that business at UT is no guarantee, it is one of if not the hardest to transfer into.

I know it is extremely difficult to transfer into but all of this is hypothetical based on the ability to transfer into it. Thanks for all the input so far!

cendrillion, Collegeboard reports that The University of Texas at Austin has 38,420 undergrads while PSU has 38,594. Is that incorrect? (I inferred from your post that PSU was significant larger UT Austin.)

Don’t count on being able to transfer into the business school at UT. If you really want business, go to one of the schools where you were accepted into the business school.

Save your money for grad or professional school.

Depends on the ranking organization and specialization. Overall McCombs is #17 (Bloomberg) and #10 (USNWR). If you stay IN Texas, the UT is #1. The further away from Texas you go, the less name McCombs carries. Also UT and Penn state are roughly the same size.

Since you want to do finance, I also recommend you stay at Penn State and save your money for grad school.
