Texas College Admissions chances, small class, average GPA

Opinion on admission chances to Texas colleges such as UTSA, UTD, UNT, Texas A&M, Baylor, UT-A, etc. with a student attending a top ranked public high school with,

Cons for admission:
1) a VERY competitive graduating class of ~203 students
2) A GPA of ~85.00+
3) 4th quartile with a rank of ~170/203.

Pros:
1) Challenging coursework all throughout high school, and taking night classes at San Antonio College, which I made A's in every course.

2) SAT Score of 1710 with Critical Reading/Math above 1100

3) Excellent essays that I have put A LOT of work on

4) Excellent recommendation letters from:
- San Antonio College professor who I have known personally for a long time, and made an A in his class.
- Computer Science teacher that I've had for 3 years now(Pre-AP, AP, now CS3 Independent Study) and I've always gone above and beyond the requirements and dabbling in C++ in a Java based course.
- Counselor that I wrote a program for that fills out a student's transcript and tells the student what classes are required for graduation, with a GPA checker, and an option to print out the transcript. Going to be used to replace the pencil-paper process that they use thus far. Maintained a relationship with the counselor ever since she started working at my school Sophomore year.

5) Distinguishing extra-curriculars
- Computer Science, Math, Science UIL
- Competed in State level HOSA competition
- Tennis team member Freshmen/Sophomore
- San Antonio College National Society of Leadership and Success member

6) Community Service/Religious Activities
- Mission Trip to Moldova to teach deaf children the bible, had to learn a little Russian Sign Language, raise $3,000, and other challenges to get there.
- San Antonio College Connection Club community service within the deaf community in San Antonio

7) Special Attributes/Circumstances to distinguish myself
- Hearing Child of Deaf Adults, CODA, and fluent in American Sign Language

I'm applying early, with almost everything that I can do to give me a very robust application for review by the universities. I'm really just hoping for UTD or UTSA right now, make sure I maintain a 3.7-4.0 GPA in college which I know I can do, and eventually move on to a tier one university. I would like to major in Computer Science with a minor a Business Administration, but I am ok with doing Undergraduate Studies if I don't get my major and take side courses in Java, C++ or whatever is offered to make sure I don't lose any of the knowledge I gained from my Computer Science courses in high school.

TL;DR I have a average (B) GPA, and I'm ranked pretty low in a competitive class of about 203, my high school is top ranked as well. But I also have many many side activities and things that can set me apart from the average applicant and a decent SAT score coupled with great essays and letters. What are my chances to getting into some universities in Texas?

I know I wrote a lot but I appreciate anyone taking the time to read this and give feedback/opinions. Thanks.

Bump real quick

Bumping before school gets out and I have to head to work.

Bumping again.

Bumping, just some feedback. I’ll see what I think about your chances as well.

UT Austin and A and M would be tough. They weight heavily on your GPA. Is it possible that you can take the December SAT. You need to aim near 1250-1300 to have a chance at UT Austin and Texas A and M but your rank brings you down. Baylor would be a high match. Your activities are good but not great. Your recommendation letters are great but with a low rank, it would’t be much help. You could try explaining your situation to Colleges. The other colleges could be well within your reach though. Good luck and keep up the High GPA!!!

@SD1996 Don’t know if the replying works on this forum, but I appreciate the feedback.

At this point I’m mainly focused on getting into UTSA, UTD, and maintaining a high GPA which I know I can do from my prep at the current high school I’m attending. After about 2 years, and wether or not I enjoy the campus at UTSA or UTD, I can see about transfer to the Tier One universities. I understand I don’t exactly have “Ivy League” extra curriculars, but all I can do is make sure I have the fullest application that tries to capture as much of me as possible for admissions. Anyway, thanks for your feedback!

Hi I was wondering whether you were able to get into UTSA being in teh fourth quartile? Just need some reas

reassurance*

@StressedSenior14 Yes I was able to get into UTSA, UTD, Baylor, all schools I applied to except for TAMU and UT. I was offered CAP and the TAMU CAP equivalent but decided to attend UTD not under CAP and transfer from there

What schools were you offered for UT cap ?
