Is anyone else coming to the Texas Exes Finalist Weekend or the Dedman Scholars Finalist Weekend (they're the same weekend, which also happens to be Round-Up).

It would be nice to know at least one person heading in.

Bumping this to ask a question about the Dedman scholarship. In an old thread there was mention about priority registration or priority in course selection for Dedman scholars. Is this true? If so, how does it work?

bump… bump…

I wish! Nope, you register at the same time as other people with your class standing and last name–unless they screwed my registration times up, which I don’t think they did.

Thanks-- I cross-posted this question to you on the Rice- UT thread.

Another question – since my son will have about 50 dual credit hours (accepted by UT), will he have priority for registration over students with fewer hours?

Not for the first semester of freshman year–he will register at his orientation according to his last name.

Afterwards, as long as they are petitioned by the middle of his first semester, they should apply toward his standing and he should register with the sophomores. For returning students, registration is based first on credit hours and then on last name, with no discrimination based on how long the student has been at UT.

My D had a lot of AP credits and one college class, about 48 credits, when she came in. In the fall when she was registering for spring, these let her register with the sophomores because she had over 30 credits. Now in the spring when she is registering for next fall, these let her register with the juniors. (They take those 50 credits you came in with and add the credits you earn fall semester and by January, your “official classification” - which is what determines your registration time slot - is “junior” as soon as you have more than 60 credits.)

Thanks, again! My son is trying to decide between Rice and UT Plan II (and occasionally mentions a few other schools). The biggest drawbacks to UT that I hear about relate to not being able to get classes, class size and weed-out classes. Knowing that after the first semester he will have some priority helps.
