Texas Govt. Test

the hardest part of that test was getting up at 7 in the morning to get to the testing location by 8:15 on day 2 of orientations. then i found out the next day that i had made a 5 on the ap gov exam and i never got the scores for the texas govt test. the test results just showed that i can get my credit for gov 310L now.

They don’t give you the score…but if you get a 5 you don’t have to get a single question right to get credit.

so lone ranger i got a 5 on ap govt… are you for sure that you dont have to get any questions right??

my question is related to claiming credit for sufficient scores on ap exams:

i received above a 600 on the sat writing portion, so i am eligible to receive credit for the rhetoric class that’s required for all students. i also received a 4 on the ap english language exam. i am wondering whether i will automatically receive credit for getting above a 600 on the sat writing, or would i need to petition for that credit to claim it? if i am required to actually petition for it, i would rather petition through my ap exam score. and, this is just because i feel that the ap exam score is nationally recognized as a way to earn credit for classes and if a grad school asks ut how i got credit for my rhetoric class, it might sound better to them that i earned it through an ap exam.

Look at your Claim Credit page. You can probably choose which method you use to get the credit.

is petitioning for credit the same thing as claiming credit?

yes, petitioning=claiming

i don’t think it’s possible to petition for credit for a 600 or above on the sat writing section. this is because i know i got over a 600, but my sat scores are not shown on the test results page that shows my ap and act scores. i’m thinking that ut automatically gives you the credit for that rhetoric class. i guess i’ll email the testing / credit by exam office to find out.

No, I had to click the button to petition for RHE306. You have to do it that way, and SAT scores should show on that page. Make sure you check for a page 2, if you have a lot of tests.

Scores that don’t qualify for any sort of credit also show there too, like SATII in US History.

haha yeah there is a page 2. i didn’t notice that before. thanks! i also noticed that there is a note next to my sat writing score that explicitly states that i use a “different score” to earn credit for the rhetoric class. i guess that means they recommend i use my ap eng lang score.

as a side note: before taking m408c, is it required to petition for credit for the basic math courses through the sat math level 1 test? i received a sufficient score on that to be able to take m408c, but am i supposed to actually petition for credits based on that score?

No you don’t have to petition for credit with the SAT 1. You can just claim the Calc credit.

I will bump this thread up because I have some questions. I received a 3 on the US Government Test and my advisor told me to take the texas government test to receive credit for the GOV 310L. So how many do I have to get right?

I don’t know how much you have to get exactly right, but let me put it this way.
I got a 4 on the AP Gov exam and took the TX Gov test during orientation. After a whole 5 months of learning economics (right before the AP Exam) and not reading the “suggested” book they mentioned to read (forget the name of it…), I still got credit for GOV 310L after taking the TX Gov Exam (didn’t study at all in other words). I haven’t taken TX history since 7th grade. I would suggest you not to worry much about it.

Yes Iambored, I will buy an older edition (2004) of the government book they recommend. The irony about that recommendation is that none of the professors who teaches gov 310L uses that book. And the books that they do use simply “cram” texas politics into like 5 chapters (including the policy chapters).

I hope I do not need to study too much, but trying to get a consensus.

My Trac has a laminated handout but if I ask her how many questions I need to get right she would say “I would recommend you to take the test”. very cryptic.

Is that whole, ‘they must have your ap scores before you take the tx gov’t test’ thing still going? I’m attending the Jun 8th orientation so there’s absolutely no way they’ll have my AP scores by then and I’ve already signed up for the placement test.

Thats what happend to me frever. They didn’t have my AP scores but you still can take the exam. When you go for advising, they’ll ask you what you think you got on your AP exams (rough estimate) and they will make your schedule according to this.

Awesome! But by “you can still take the exam,” do you mean that I will have to talk to an adviser about it while I am there? or should can I go on pretending that I never knew the rule existed?

just go in pretending the rule didn’t exist. Give the rule the bird in other words ;)

I know this is three years later almost than the last post but thanks so much everyone for all the help. I was seriously freaking out over this stupid thing. Btw the Texas Governor’s Salary is in there. $115,345 a year.

Just want to make sure on how many I need to get right if I got a 4 on the ap gov exam
