If the TEXAS Grant gets continued funding (at the mercy of the Tx Leg.) and you complete at least 24 credits with at least 75% completion rate, have a gpa of at least 2.5 during 10-11 and submit next year’s FAFSA by March 1, 2011 (send it earlier to be safe!), you should receive the grant at UT the following year.
Although eligibility for grants will be the same at all state schools, some grants have limited funding and may be offered to different percentages of eligible students at different schools.

not necessarily, because if UT runs out of Texas Grant funds then you wont get it. That is why alot of people didnt get it this year, they go from low efc to high, so just hope they get to you, btw its a great grant

man… i found out ut dallas will only give me 3,000 for the texas grant.
is it because my fafsa came in late you think, or ut dallas just gives only 3000?

so does anyone know how much ut austin awards if you recieve their texas grant?

The Texas Grant is awarded at an amount that will fully cover your tuition & fees when combined with a Texas Public Education Grant. But, it has to fit within your “need”. If you have other grants and scholarships, the Texas Grant may have to be reduced. Does your UTD award include other aid (in addition to Pell)? If so, that could explain the difference in the Texas Grant award amount. Also, be sure you are looking at the annual and not the semester amounts.

yeah it was 3000 per year.
so is something wrong then?
is the university allowed to change the amount you receive, (not counting the reason that it goes over ur budget)

i hope i wont run into these problems when i go to ut. …

Yes. With a 0 EFC, unless you are receiving other grants and scholarships (in addition to the Pell) that meet your full COA, you should receive the full $6780. However, be aware that many schools wait until they see your final HS transcript (that confirms that you completed the recommended or distinguished program) before awarding the Texas Grant.

i just received an email from my financial aid counselor and she told me that I was talking about the wrong grant! you were totally right!!!

so maybe i will be getting the 6,780. oh man that would help ALOT!

THANK YOU for your clarification!

but she said something about it depends if UT dallas awards the texas grant this year? does anyone know about this. can colleges just choose to not use it for one year?

More students qualify than there are funds for. My school awards the grant to eligible students 1st come, 1st served. I think UT awards it in order of the lowest EFC. Last year, my school was only able to award eligible (initial year) students who submitted the FAFSA by Feb 22. All renewal students who submitted the FAFSA by March 1 received the renewal grant (different funds).
Some financial aid counselors may not know the dates and dollars for next year yet because the THECB is not great about updating schools or the College for Texans website quickly. It has been a challenging year for financial aid folks across the country due to very recent changes in federal financial aid. During the time we generally start awarding for the upcoming year, congress passed a new bill, so all of our software became obsolete. Processing came to a screeching halt while we waited for software updates. In addition, many offices are short-staffed due to hiring freezes in all state agencies (including colleges).
