I got a denial also. I think it's because I don't have a strong sport, i.e. football. Mine is golf. Not to worry, I still have my congressman and Hutchison.

Wow you Texas people sure do have a lot of competition!! That really stinks, if they don't even give you an interview because they don't like the sport you play. I'm not even sure if our MOC turn anyone down (maybe if they have a 1.8 GPA and an outstanding warrent for their arrest...), because the interview process is supposed to show who you are as a person (I know, preachin to the choir. Still, it stinks - what if all their interviewees were total dunderheads and they could have gotten interviewees like you?). I feel your pain

wow, im surprised. I can't believe only two of us got it. For me its reassuring since I don't have an LOA, but I'm still shocked no one else received from Cornyn.

I have no school sports, I only have 7 years of Taekwondo with a couple titles, but nothing special. I would really like to know how the panel chooses!

Don't worry to the rest of ya, with LOA's in hand, I'm sure you will all get nominations! Keep up the good work!

yeah i have an LOA from west point (i'm not applying to air force or navy) and i didn't get cornyn's nomination. :( oh well...now i must have an excellent interview this sat!

If you have an LOA the academy will find a nomination source for you. There are many sources of nomination that an academy can find if you need one...essentially, a nomination is the legal hurdle a candidate must pass to gain an appointment; in a sense, it is a ticket to play the game. However, an LOA is like having the other coach's playbook...it is a huge advantage for you because the academy is showing that they want you; thus, a nomination is more easily acquired.

Texas is too big for interviews for senators, no one had one I believe.

I have heard that for the small number of people with LOA'swho do not recieve a nomination from their own MOC's, a Vice Presidential nomination is used. So in the highly unlikely event that you get a Letter of Assurance, but you still don't get a nomination from ANY of your 3 sources, there is still a very large possibility that you will get a VP nomination

If you're referring to Megbee's comment, we have our interview for Congressman McCaul this Saturday.

I'm kinda happy we didn't have Senatorial interviews.

yes, that's true...plus, senatorial nominations are extremely hard to come by, their numbers are far more limited to the amount they can nominate in comparison to congressmens....it's all about the numbers & the pacakage for the senators

does anyone know if a MOC can nominate you to 2 academies? or if 2 diff MOC"s can nominate you for the same one? i always wondered about it, it doesnt make sense, but you never know sometimes....

also asking b/c i put AFA as my first choice school on my 2 senators, congressman (johnson, 3rd district, tx) and VP, but i got an LOA from batch one from AFA and not sure what batch in USNA (received oct 23 ish) anyways, i would really like to have my options still open for both academies. I'm all set for AFA, medical stuff passed, nomination, LOA...but USNA still waiting on nomination.

thanks, and congrats hornet guy! yay to us texans! (haha)

and goodluck toall of you who didn't get one from cornyn, i'm sure you'll get one from hutchinson, VP, or your congressman!

Different MOC's can nominate to the same Academy, my friend's brother is in his second year at the AFA and he received a nomination from both Hutchison and Culberson (10th district) for the AFA.

I don't know about multiple from one though.

When's your interview with Johnson?

One MOC can nominate to multiple.

Yea, my board asked if I still wanted to be nominated for both USNA and USMA so I take that to mean they can nominate me to both

[/quote]

already done..actually....the head liason officer for that told me that my ALO interview can count toward's the johnson interview, so i'm all set...i just really hope i get a usna nominee too

You will! If you qualified for a Senatorial nomination, then you can get the district one.

I talked to Anna Smith at Cornyn's office today. Only 10 nominees were announced for the AFA and he uses the competitive system where the Academy decides which one(s) to admit.

I also talked to my AFA counselor today, my file went before the first board and was passed on. Anyone know if that means it will go through each potential LOA board, or is it held off till normal admissions?

Mine too... i am curious as to what happens next

Now that you have a nomination, it will be up for appointment, not a LOA. Being that you received a Senatorial nomination this early, and that it was "passed on", I imagine that is a pretty good sign for you.

Passed on I guess means they did not see something that they didn't like. Only good I should think.

That's reassuring. I also overnighted my final medical papers, they have them as of today. Good results on it too. My fingers are crossed, I don't know what I would do without all yall's support, this board is a life saver. Everyone applying needs this place!
