Gee, in 1970 you could not be elected in Texas, to any office, if you were not a Democrat. Now, it's mostly Republican. We have two strong independents running for governor. Sounds pretty competitive to me.

i actually like kinky better than the idiot weve got now(rick perry) who allows illegals to go to the texas public universities at an instate rate. if its gotta be anyone, im choosing kinky.

Let's try that again. Every state-wide office in Texas - State Supreme Court, Railroad Commissioner, Lieutenant Governor through Governor and U.S. Senators - is held by one party in Texas. The two independent candidates for Governor are strong and vigorous personalities, but their candidacies are just getting off the ground. (Kinky Friedman barely registers in the polls and Ms. Keaton-Strayhorn has enormous hurdles ahead, though some Democratic contributors are sending money to her cause as the best - though faint -chance of an alternative.) And let's not forget the gerrymandered Congressional redistricting orchestrated by Tom DeLay a couple years ago that is now in front of the U.S. Supreme Court. If this isn't one party rule, what is?

haha ms keaton-strayhorn: one tough grandma.

I know what you mean about Bama, the minute I walked on campus it was like magic. seems like you had sort of the same experience. I would have passed up A&M to go to Bama if only Bama had a vet program!

Academics at Texas vs Alabama is no contest. Texas is BY LEAPS AND BOUNDS the superior academic institution. This really isn’t a contest.

Where in Texas?

I would go to the University of Texas. Alabama and Texas have a lot of school pride, yet Texas is a lot better academically. Austin is a cool place with a lot to do there, it is a little more liberal then the rest of Texas, yet you can use that to your advantage.

Good luck with you choice.
