Texas Tech Honors College

I was just wondering how much harder Texas Tech Honors College is (academically) in comparison to the regular school. Also I was wondering if the (honors) academics were on par with some of the better ranked Texas schools?

Thanks :)

I am a senior in high school accepted to tech and the honors college.

When I visited they said it isn’t necessarily harder just smaller classes. But can anyone offer anymore detailed insight than this?

I have some questions about living in Gordon, the honors dorm. How “concentrated” is it in the dorm? How much of the dorm is freshmen vs returning junior and sophmores? Does anyone in Gordon rush or pledge soroities?

Graduated from Tech, did not do Honors college but:

 1. Honors students can take a few pretty cool electives that no one else can (unless they get permission).
 2. A large reg. history course can have like 400 people (which personally i liked)…an honors history course can have 20 people. So you get to know the professor better…which is cool since most Tech history professors are great. That being said…its just a different structure since the smaller courses will have more essays…while it would be impossible to offer essays to all 400 ppl so its usually multiple choice. Usually not harder…I actually think professors like when kids take honors courses and just give everyone As and Bs.
 3. You can be in the Honors college and not live in Gordon.
 4. Very little people in Gordon rush or pledge a sorority.
 5. Mostly freshman in the dorms…mostly freshman in all dorms except Murray/Carpenter Wells. A few sophomores here and there…some of my friends actually stayed there for 2 years but its still mostly freshman.
 6. Wreck em’ Tech!
