I'm just apply to Texas A&M, but just incase I don't get admitted I need a back up. I am looking at either Texas Tech or Texas state. Which do you think is a better University to graduate from? My major is Biology if that matter.

Texas Tech would be the better choice.

No contest--it's Texas Tech, a university with some reputation, although it's third tier nationally. The other, still best known as San Marcos State, is the Texas system's premier party school with essentially open admissions and no particular strengths. Texas State is classified as a "master's university." Either is a significant drop off from A & M.

Tech's having a medical school right on campus (which even A&M does not have) undoubtedly benefits the research opportunities in a biology related major. Many Tech undergraduates work directly with faculty on various research projects in the sciences and other areas (the program is called the Undergraduate Research Challenge which involves hundreds of students). I can't comment on the opportunities at Texas State, but the opportunities for a biology major at Tech are considerable.

Just to clarify, A&M actually does have a med school on campus - http://medicine.tamhsc.edu/

Also, to the OP, I would agree with the other posters that Tech is a better university than Texas State.

Tech has a better reputation because it has stronger academics than Texas State. However, lifestyles in Lubbock and San Marcos are not too similar: you need to think about what type of lifestyle makes you happiest and deside based on that.

Texas Tech is the better of the two.
