Texas Tech, UTD, or....

Hey everyone! I was wondering if anyone had some advice for me since I’m trying to decide on a college and I’m SUPER confused. I plan to go to medical school one day, so I would love some insight on which college could help me most on this journey. And I know this is super subjective based on the person and situation, but I was hoping for some general info. Basically, I’m choosing between Texas Tech, Trinity University (San Antonio), Texas A&M, or UT Dallas. I’m getting pretty good scholarships at all of the universities, but I’m in honor’s college at only Tech since I didn’t apply to the honor’s programs at the other three (though I may for Trinity just to increase my options). Which college has the most resources for medical volunteer work/shadowing/research? Which university has the most resources for preparing for the MCAT (like specific preparation/tutoring courses or set study groups)? Does anyone have personal experience/know anyone who has gone through the process with these universities? Any help is greatly appreciated since I need to make my decision pretty quick!! Thank you:))

Hello,
I can speak to Trinity, being a current student. For getting into medical school, the website states that “Trinity students who complete required courses with a GPA of 3.5 or higher have a success rate of 90%.”
Not being Premed myself, I don’t know how much about medical shadowing opportunities, but we do have an abundance of research opportunities. There are so many ways to get involved in research as early as your freshman year. Other universities typically have to reserve those coveted research positions for graduate students, but first years and other undergraduates get involved with research all the time here. Basically you just need to express an interest and talk to a professor and they’ll usually be able to find a way to get you in their lab.
You certainly wouldn’t be the only premed student here, and I know there are study groups that deal with the material. I don’t know whether they are “set study groups” like you inquired about, but they are certainly helpful.
As far as I know there is not an honors college at Trinity, so you wouldn’t even need to apply for that.
Good luck in your college selection,
Trinicat

Texas Tech honors college has a special arrangement with their medical school that you shouled research before you make your decision. https://www.depts.ttu.edu/honors/academicsandenrichment/professionalandearlyacceptance/earlyacc_med.php
