Texas Tech VS University of Texas at ARLINGTON

I have a Petroleum Engineering offer at Texas Tech (which is my FIRST CHOICE; I simply love PE) and an Engineering offer at UT-Arlington (doesn't matter what major, I can switch during the first two years; but UTA doesn't provide PE).

Which one is better? My father graduated from UTA so is definitely biased towards it, and his friend is too. His friend tells me that UTA is "by far much better and a more recognized school than TexasTech". Is that true?

Not true, UTA perceived as a commuter school. Go to Tech and have the full college experience.

I just looked up some rankings and the two are similar. One thing I learned from my father when dealing with my children is not to be full of bleep. The mere fact that you want to be a PE should be enough to make your decision to go to TT.

MQ1993, encourage your Dad to read these responses from several parents on this and the other thread you posted. Then give him a chance to think about it first (for a day or so) before you re-open the “go to Tech vs. UTA” discussion. Besides being a loyal alum of UTA, maybe there are some other family-type matters and decisions that are causing him to recommend UTA strongly. However, if it boils down to more personal preference (his - UTA) versus yours (Tech and PE), then the parents’ responses so far are all “go Tech!”.
