Texas Vs. Madison

My d got into both schools as of yesterday. Trying to weigh the merits for an oos kid.

Both capitols, both great college towns, both good national reputations(wisc. slightly higher in USNAWR) Both good spirit, Austin much warmer, Wisconsin a little more diverse in student makeup....Help

Seeking opinions.

Thanks

Congrats to your daughter for her acceptances. Both are great schools and she can’t go wrong with either.

As far as choosing between them, what is her intended major? Maybe that might be a good way to try to choose between the universities. Also too, does she have a preference in where she might wish to work after graduation? Universities tend to place better in cities closer to them so that might be a factor in her decision.

She was accepted into Communication at UT. has some interest in Marketing Business major as well. Wisconsin, does not have direct admit into Business school. Wants to return to L.A. after graduation.

The topic has came up recently, please see the following posts:

The UT-Austin POV:

The UW-Madison POV:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-wisconsin-madison/659529-teaxas-austin-vs-wisconsin-madison.html

My daughter was also admitted into the Communications College at Austin (Public Relations) and would be a Communications major at Wisconsin, if she gets in and attends (we are still waiting to hear from UW-Madison). She visited both campuses as well and all things being even prefers Austin over Madison. (She thought that Austin had more to offer as a City-she thought the schools were comparable) Note that for OOS- Texas will be $7-9,000 per year more expensive than Wisconsin, which may be a big factor in choosing Wisconsin over Texas in the final analysis.
