<p>I'd quibble about 5th grade being 11 - at least in our town. You have to be 10 by Dec 31. My kids saw problems with x's and y's from early on, though I don't think they got double digits as fast as you did, but then the curriculum really seemed to sloooow down in later elementary school. All that graphing, all that estimating!</p>
