textbook q (access codes)

Anyone know if the Calculus 2 (Math 0230) uses the webassign access cards?
No instructor assigned yet so no one to ask…
This is the book according to the class schedule:

From what I understand, if they will use access codes then they must buy the book new, correct?
Is it best just to wait until the first day of class?

Thanks!

@ Scholarme- My D has used WebAssign for a few classes. As I understand it, it is an online system for doing homework problems and the instructor sets up how many tries you may attempt. The system automatically gives you credit for your answer, or lets you know it is wrong and to make another attempt assuming you have not used up your number of tries. I imagine that it makes the collection and grading of homework very easy for the instructor. I thought the instant feedback was great. Here is a link from Wiki which might describe it better than I can: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebAssign

I would imagine that it is absolutely required, but you should be able to buy the access code separately from the book. Certainly my D was able to do that in her classes. Bought a book used for about $30 that covered several quarters of physics. The WebAssign for her class was about $35/quarter if memory serves me correctly. Hopefully someone with experience with Pitt Calculus will provide more details.

Thanks @woodsmom !
My kid called and talked to “someone” in the Math dept who said they won’t need it. Not sure if that will change but I’m glad to hear they can buy it separately if needed.
