<p>If I e-mail a professor and how him how much we will be using certain textbooks and to what extent (questioning the necessity of buying a certain book), will any professor tell me that some books aren't necessary to buy?</p>
<p>Specifically, has anyone taken PHYS 1110 with Cates? I'm not a science major, and I don't want to send money on books i'll probably never use again. If you've taken the class can you tell me how much you used each of the 3 books?</p>
<p>I took CS101 and point blank asked the professor if we needed a paper copy of the book ($70) since it was available online, and he told me point blank “only unless you like to hold it in your hands.” The current professor of CS101 doesn’t allow the book site for quizzes so you need the paper copy now. But some professors are cool and will tell you the truth. I don’t know about your specific class though.</p>
