Is it normal to not bring a textbook the first day to class?
Ive heard of cases where you can end up buying 3 textbooks as per the schools website to have the professor say, nope sorry only 1
Is it doable just to get textbooks the 2nd or 3rd day?

Yes, it is normal not to being the textbook on the first day of class, and professors are generally very aware that many students may be in the process of getting the book during the first week or two of class. Also, there are students add the class late, who would also be getting the book later than the first day of class.

Also, I’ve never brought or used a textbook in class. It’ll depend on the class, but for many classes, I would imagine you would likely not even need to bring the textbook to class. I’ve only used a book in class, when it was a required novel or something similar, and even then, it was more out of convenience than necessity.

You are required to bring all three AND copies of each book for everybody else in class. Don’t be selfish! And an apple for the teacher.

People don’t bring books to class.

The only time I’ve had to bring a textbook to actually use in class was for my German classes. If you need the book in class, the professor will probably say something about it and give a date that you should have the book by. In my case, the first quarter of German the instructor emailed us all a week before saying we’d need to bring the book and to have it within the first five classes. After that he figured we already had the book and just said to bring it every day before each quarter began.

Long story short, there’s no need to bring the textbook to class, especially on the first day, unless the professor specifically tells you to.

Don’t bring the books, read them, take some notes and go with that. If the prof says to bring it then do so because their lectures will rely on the book. Otherwise you are on your own.

Yes, I didn’t bring any books to class on the first day and none of my professors seemed to care.

Usually the first day is syllabus day anyway – I’ve never brought books to the first day of class. What textbooks your prof requires depends on him or her. Yes I have had teachers say we needed to buy 2-3 books but we end up really using one. I’ve also had classes where we end up using no textbooks really and they’re just reference guides. It kind of sucks but you can figure some out through the grapevines – ask about the profs, look them up on ratemyprof.
