<p>yup. that’s how the other students (namely, non-freshmen) buy their books.</p>
<p>You can try to find someone selling those books on Facebook (look through UCSD discussion pages, group pages), Facebook Marketplace, or uloop.com. I’m buying my econ book from someone who posted on a UCSD Facebook page, but I also saw a buttload of them on uloop for very similar prices.</p>
