Textbook Rental

Has anyone tried this?
My D will be a freshmant this fall and I was wondering if this option is viable or not?

I did this (from chegg.com). I only did it for a book that was near brand new and I couldn’t find used.

It worked out fine. They encourage you not to highlight/write in the book. It wasn’t a big deal for me with the book I used, but it might be for certain texts.

Thanks!
How long was mailing time?

I have only recently heard of it, but the couple of kids I know seemed to thing it was a good deal. One kid said he was getting his on the 3rd day of the class. My guess it depends on when you order. If you get the syllbus on the first day or a week early.

I have looked at it but never used the service, I was always able to find a new or like new book for sale cheaper. I suggest using it only as a last resort.

Thanks for the advice.
Would you say Amazon is the best bet?

Mailing time was pretty decent, if I remember correctly.
I think I got the book within 5 days of ordering it. Most professors have a reserve book at the library so I usually just use that if I have to during the first week of class (though I’ve only had to once).

I would say to look at Electronics, Cars, Fashion, Collectibles & More | eBay first for used books (I’ve used both and never had an issue). If its brand new and expensive, renting may be the way to go.

Here are some of the places I have bought books from. I know some have mentioned they buy international copies very cheap, I have never tried this. Shipping time can vary from a week to a month.

I would start by just searching google using the isbn number.

You can check Barnes and Noble and Borders online used book sections.

I always verify the book being sold: has the correct ISBN number, is the correct edition, and has no writing or highlighting in it. I try to buy from individuals rather than the large used book sellers unless they are selling a new book. You would be surprised at the number of new books being sold at greatly discounted prices. You can also check Craigslist. Shop around, prices are all over the place.

Great!

Thanks!
