textbooks for AP econ and psych

I enroll in a Canadian high school, and unfortuantely my school doesnt offer AP.\
So I planed to do self-study and take the test in May.

Anyways.. can anyone suggest the best textbooks or the textbooks you used for AP economics and psychology?
I see it on the internet that Princeton Review is the best prep book for econ, and Barron's is the best book for psy. But is it gonna work if I only follow the prep books? (I know the questions are probably stupid--the thing is I really have no idea.)
Also, a little advice for how to study and the time frame would be super helpful.
I would really appreciate anyone who helps me out here.

The Barron’s prep book will work for psych. We use Psychology by David G. Myers. Although it’s full of extremely interesting information, it’s just too much for the class and exam. For economics, I used the textbook Economics by Krugman and Wells. I had a Princeton Review guide, but it wasn’t that helpful. It would have been hard to learn economics directly from that prep book; the textbook did a very good job at clearing things up. I got 5s on both macro and micro, and I’m taking psych right now.

I accidently found a list of economics textbooks…

[Book Reviews](http://web.centre.edu/econed/Pages/Book%20Reviews.htm)
seems like most of the comments are positive.

anyone wanna comment on that?

I found a teachers’ guide on CB and the teachers’ guide has lesson guides for each week.

I’m an international too whose high school doesn’t offer APs as well. I’m studying economics in school and I plan to use Economics by Krugman and Wells. I’m taking AP psychology next year too!

I used the McConnell and Brue Economics books. We didn’t use all of the chapters, but the ones we did definitely prepared me adequately for the exams. I don’t know if the Princeton by itself is enough for the exam, but it was definitely a good review.

As for Psych, you don’t really need a textbook. The Barrons revew book was enough.

Hmm from the self-study thread up there, Oasis says PR is enough for a 5 on economics. Personally, I never took the exam and I’m preparing to self-study for economics using PR over winter-break.

But as for AP Psychology, I have to agree, Barron’s Prep book is enough.

I used Mankiw’s economics textbook for AP, but I personally found it annoyingly wordy. Then again, Mankiw teaches freshman econ at Harvard, and I got 5s on both econ exams, with that book and some studying of past exams.

PR is not enough for a 5 on economics. You’ll be fine for the FRQs, but some of the MCs get into details and situations that PR simply won’t prepare you for.

I’d go with 5 Steps to a 5 for Econ.

Anyone else use McConnell and Brue Economics? I am thinking of buying the textbook to self-study. I also have PR and 5 steps to a 5, but I’d like a textbook as well.

so Mermaid123456, can you give me a hint which chapters you used in the McConnell and Brue Economics ?

I would recommend Mankiw testbook and Samuelson testbook for Econ. You may find these books wordy but they tend to be more inclusive and can help you generate a deeper understanding of the subject. If all you want is a score of 5, just read the Barron’s test prep book, which will get you a 5.
