Textbooks for those with financial aid

How does it work? Does the financial aid pay for my books or do I buy them myself and they reimburse me later?

Financial aid doesn’t work like that.
what happens is that they deduce the cost of tuition and fees from your scholarship, then if there are any leftovers they send it to your bank account if you sent your bruindirect stuff to them.
After that you pretty much budget your money on your own. So you’d probably spend what you have leftover on the rent for the room and the meal plan first, then buy textbooks or whatever else you need.

A more visual account:

Money —> BAR Account (University fees and the like are paid automatically.)

Money Left over ----> Check Refund (mailed home) OR transferred to your personal checking account (by use of BruinDirect)

Money from check / in account —> you use to pay for housing(that includes meals) online, books etc.

Other schools have programs like EOP, where they actually helps students pay for books as well as giving academic counseling. Unfortunately, UCLA only has AAP, which is like EOP, but without money. D:
