Hi guys, I'm ready to buy my books for this semester, but I was wondering whether I can bill the cost of my textbooks to my bursar account?

Look online to buy your books…WAY cheaper

Agreed Yankee…we have had a lot of success on-line as well.

Are your books posted? We checked our son’s account yesterday and his hadnt been posted yet. Online is MUCH cheaper!

You guys are getting books already? I planned on waiting till after Welcome Week when we get in the classroom.

Where are the books posted online, section under OneStart?

You can look them up from class schedule or from bookstore website. Students have suggested waiting until you meet for class because things can change and some books are not required

We ordered books at TIS. They didn’t make us Pre pay, just took the class list. We requested used. They also guarantee 50% buy back at end of the semester. Order will be ready for pick up during welcome week. We ordered when we were in town for orientation, but I believe you can order online, too. Seemed like a good, low risk way to go for the first semester.

TIS will take back any books full refund that end up not being needed for the first week or two–it’s not a huge deal. Also, if TIS ends up being out of something, professors are more likely to be lenient about it than if a random online retailer is out or your books are late–especially for classes that require books for homework (language classes, etc.)

Soccergurl: How come IU bookstore says they dont know what books I need for a certain class but TIS has a list of books for that class?

Yankees when you order online is that from TIS?

Yes…that was what I was looking at

Yankees–Sometimes the professor hasn’t given the list to IU bookstore yet, but also make sure you have the correct section # for each bookstore. Different sections of the same class can use different books–or no books at all! If TIS has books listed, they are generally pretty trusted–I wouldn’t worry. Plus if you just order the ‘required’ books, they’ll only fill your order with what the final required list is, since sometimes professors change or add books later in the summer.

Ordering through TIS is much lower risk than online, and your rewards points do add up. By my senior year, I had enough points to get almost $150 worth of gift cards–which are great for all those alumni sweatshirts, license plate frames, and other IU gear that you want while still on campus

Can i order online from TIS and pick them up when I get there?

Yes, you can–that’s what most of the student population does. Just select that option when you get to that part of the order process

Just to clarify on ordering, Yankees…TIS takes your class list (we just gave them Ds schedule). They don’t actually order the books until the classes list the books… Which is why you don’t Pre pay. And they won’t know what used books are available either. So the order is really just a Pre order.

If you DO order through the IU bookstore, can it be applied to your bursar account???

No 10chara

My daughter is signed up for Math-M 119, and when i select the section she’s in, it says it doesn’t have any course materials from the IU bookstore.

The section she’s in has “Staff” listed as the instructor, and the TIS bookstore does have the book listed, with two versions, one that looks like a bound book and the other that’s a looseleaf.

So… Am I correct in assuming that the IU bookstore is messed up, and that I can go ahead and get the bound book from TIS?

This happened to my son in m118, where it looked like there was no book when in fact there is, and his section initially had “staff” listed. From what I understand that means no prof or grad student has been assigned yet, but will be. Then the book would show on the site. We used TIS by the way.
