Is there a way to find out the names and ISBN numbers of the books needed for the various classes. My son is hoping to buy most of his books used, online prior to arrving on campus. One of the professors posted the books for his class on his blog so we have gotten the three for that class at about 1/4 of the new cost. THank you

Hi! If you go to the GW Bookstore, you will be able to log in each of your classes and the textbooks required will be shown. I just purchased most of my books through half.com’s textbook superstore and I saved hundreds of dollars!! Interestingly, some of my profs have written their own little booklets to go with the classes and they ended up being the most expensive. Hope you have the same good luck I had!

no need to buy used when in amazon.com you can buy new for a fraction of the cost at GW! the bookstore is way expensive, sometimes 2 to 3x more! beware
Also you may try Allibris.com and Walmart

I’ve never not found the textbook I needed on Amazon for an insanely cheap price (and good quality too). I don’t understand why everyone isn’t using it. I save hundreds of dollars each semester. Once, my micro book cost about $200 at the college bookstore and I found it on amazon for $30!!!

Thanks Everyone. Between Ebay & Amazon purchased 8 books for under $100.

greenemeralds: agree completely with you! My Calculus book was priced at the bookstore 250 and I found it for 100 new at amazon. Ridiculous!

FYI: I ust bought like 3 major texbooks and a few smaller ones and saved 200 dollars>An example is a book going for 105 and bought it for 42 dollars in Amazon, new! same edition. maybe soft cover vs hard cover but still is the same book

Has anyone had to buy an “Aplia card” with their books? “Green” - you mentioned your micro book, and I wondered if you had to buy that card with your book, since my prof is requiring one with his micro book. Do you know anything about these cards? Any info would be helpful, “gwsenior” says that they never had to use one.

I’ve never heard of it, waves…

waves…if it’s what I think it is, then it’s a unique serial number that you’re supposed to use for online activities. If you’re purchasing it with your book on Amazon for example make sure that the description mentions it, wether it’s a new or used version of the book.

Since my last post, I emailed the prof and he told me that I could purchase this Aplia card (necessary to do online homework which Aplia then grades for the prof) from aplia.com for about $60.00. He also thought that I could get it for more at the bookstore. I hate spending so much money on this card thing when I got such great deals on the books that I’m really interested in. Guess I should be glad for the great deals!

What about ISBN numbers? No listings through GW? Even my hs gave us the ISBN’s. How do you know if the book you are purchasing is the correct one? The only solution I can see is to pay attention to the version number but still, there are things like DVD’s/Aplia ITS cards. My expensive books dont have a picture on the cover so I cant even compare that way.
Waves: that Aplia card…so can you come out ahead if you have to buy the card separately?

Im going to try to buy the Aplia card separately thru aplia.com (I think they want $60 for it) and I have already bought my econ book thru half.com for only $4.00 !!! The bookstore cost for book and card was $205 so I have saved a lot! But no one has given me much info on this card and I hope I don’t end up buying the wrong card.

Did you buy the card yet? I went to the site but couldn’t find a link to purchase it. It looks like the cards are individualized for each book too.

I have a call into the aplia people (650-592-5100) but no one has called me back yet. What a scam if you have to buy the expensive book to get the card. I’ll let you know what I find out.

nbg and I have done some research and for anyone out there that is taking Micro w/Trost, you do not have to buy the expensive book/card combo from the bookstore. You can buy the card and an online book for $80 from aplia.com Thanks nbg for all the help!

waveswatcher: I found the textbook in aplia.com but how do you purchase it from the website?

HI, waveswatcher, do I have to register for an account in order to get the text books list? Cuz I searched “Text Book” for all my classes. There is NO one coming out now. (I think it’s weird).

Thanks :)

If you go to the GW bookstore cite, there is a place up top listed “textbooks.” Go to that and it will ask you to pick a department, a course and a section. (You should have this info bc you’ve probably registered for most of your classes and you can get a schedule printout with course CRN and section from the gweb info section of the GW cite.) Then it will tell you the books that are required by the prof for that course. You can do it over and over for each class. I think the only time you need an account is when you purchase from the bookstore - which I would not recommend. There are tooooo many places to get used books for a few dollars! Unfortunately, some profs have listed their lecture notes or something they wrote for their class, that can only be purchased thru the bookstore, and they usually are expensive, and no way to get around it. Hope this helps!
