textbooks

I know the grandmother is very set in her ways. She is a retired accountant so I’m sure she understands the money part of textbooks. The girl and her parents have nothing against used books. I guess I just wasn’t expecting such an absolute refusal from the grandmother towards used books or returning books. I think the grandmother is paying for the books so that the parents can’t complain.

One thought I just had was that the girl’s brother who is in 8th grade attends a private school and gets used books at times. Maybe there was an issue with one of his books.

When my daughter was in dual enrollment the books were free rentals but it taught my daughter about needing codes I’m not familiar with iclickers and paying for homework and hope it stays that way.

Textbooks in middle and high school tend to be kept by the school for use over many school years, so students often end up with well-used textbooks unless it is the first year a given batch of textbooks is used. But not all used books in the college bookstore are as beat-up as a ten year old high school textbook.
