Textbooks??

I'm self-studying AP's next year and i've looked through the other threads to get a general idea of the textbooks that people recommend. But there are a lot of different ones that people use, so what would be the best textbook for each AP for me to buy from amazon?? Oh, and also for some of the textbooks, there are a lot of different editions or volumes, would it be better to get the latest edition?
